Truck driver drowns in Osun River
A truck driver, identified only as Sheriff, on Friday evening, fell and drowned in the Osun River in Ogberin village, Ede, Osun State when he wanted to bathe.
It was learnt that the deceased was at the river bank after he and his colleagues removed their truck that got stuck in the road while going to offload the content of the vehicle.
Sheriff and his men, after freeing the truck and delivering the content, reportedly stopped at the river bank to wash their bodies when the incident happened.
An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the deceased while standing at the riverbank, was about to bend down and start bathing when he suddenly slipped and fell into the river.
“He had not started bathing. He was about to bend and start bathing when he slipped and fell into the river,” the eyewitness said.
The source added that people at the scene tried to save Sheriff but they couldn’t. The deceased’s remains were yet to be recovered as of press time.
Speaking with our correspondent, spokesperson for the state police command, Yemisi Opalola, said she had yet to be briefed on the matter.
